Description: This course is a certification course in accordance with 49 CFR and DOD 4500.9-R. It is specifically designed to fulfill the need for general awareness/familiarization, safety and security awareness training for HAZMAT employees as required by 49 Code of Federal Regulations(CFR), Section 172.704. It does not fulfill the need for function specific or in-depth security training also required by 49 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Section 172.704. This course provides training associated with the transportation of hazardous materials. Focus is on the nine hazard classes and documents associated with shipping hazardous materials.

Audience: This course is intended for personnel who meet the definition of a "HAZMAT employee" as defined in the 49 Code of Federal Regulation (CFR), Section 171.8 and require training in the areas specified in Section 172.704 of the 49 CFR. It is also for military, civilian and contractor personnel (at any grade level) who require the training necessary to fulfill their duties associated with the transportation of hazardous materials.

Length: Approximately 4 hours (self-paced learning)

Special Information: This course is provided as a web-based course. Students must have web access, a CAC card, and an AKO account. Students must register through ATRRS for course credit. It is recommended that you have a high-speed Internet connection in order to view the course.

College Credit: Students who complete this course may be able to receive college-level credit as recommended by ACE. ACEs recommendations for college credit for this course include: In the lower division baccalaureate/associate degree category, 1 semester hour in Hazardous Materials Transportation (7/10).
